Before you hang that final ornament, frost that last cookie or finish tying ribbons on the gift boxes, there’s one more special request that awaits.

During this season of giving, it’s hoped that you will take time to remember your struggling Hudson Valley/Catskills neighbors by donating to the People for People Fund.

The need, exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic, is great. Take, for instance, the Orange County mom of four, whose husband lost his job in the COVID-19 shutdown. Although Pandemic Unemployment Assistance helped keep the family afloat for awhile, it didn’t last long enough to maintain their basic needs.

The husband continues to search for another job; so far, no luck. The mom cares for their disabled son – who suffered a stroke a couple of years ago – as a paid aide. One of the couple’s other sons lost his job early in the year, but unfortunately, he did not qualify for unemployment insurance benefits because he didn’t have enough time at the job.

Fortunately, the People for People Fund stepped in with a one-time grant to bring the family’s rent current. Help is offered to people who have been able to financially support themselves until a major unexpected event changes their circumstances. The expectation is that recipients will go back to being self-supporting afterward.

The Fund depends on the generosity of local folks in our community – individuals, businesses, schools, and religious and civic organizations. The need is great. The urgency is real.

About the Fund

The People for People Fund offers a one-time grant to steadily employed local people who have normally been self-supporting until an unexpected financial emergency arises. The Fund’s assistance should significantly resolve the problem and help the individual resume financial stability. Since 1985, the fund has helped thousands of local people.
